High level of financial literacy among Polish youth

Polish students count and understand finances well. Of the 20 countries that participated in the additional part of the PISA 2018 survey on financial literacy, the average score of Polish 15-year-olds was one of the highest in the world. “OECD Skills Strategy: Poland” has been released

The “OECD Skills Strategy: Poland” report was presented at a conference on December 11th in Warsaw. The conference was attended by representatives of ministries, NGOs, the education sector and institutions supporting education. Dariusz Piontkowski, Minister of National Education opened the conference, and the report’s main conclusions were presented by Ludger Schuknecht, Deputy Secretary-General of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). Więcej

Polish students are ahead of everyone but young Estonians in mathematical literacy in the European Union. In terms of reading literacy, Polish youths occupy 4th place among EU countries, and in science literacy, they are third. Więcej

Dr. Łukasz Arendt, D.Sc.

dr hab. Łukasz Arendt Habilitated doctorate in economics, assistant professor in the Department of Economic Policy at the University of Łódź. In 2016–2019 he was the director of the Institute of Labour and Social Affairs. Currently, he is a member of the Mazovian Voivodeship Labour Market Council for the term of 2019–2022. He was also elected to the Committee of Labour and Social Policy Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences for the term of 2020–2023. In addition, he is a member of the Polish Society of Social Policy.

He is a graduate of the Faculty of Economics and Sociology at the University of Łódź. He also completed the postgraduate studies programme "Management of scientific research and commercialization of research results". He completed one-month research internships at California State University, the University of Nevada, the Institute of Economics and the Institute of Industrial Engineering of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Novosibirsk. He participated many times in didactic internships under the ERASMUS+ and CEEPUS programmes. He cooperates with the National Science Centre and the National Academic Exchange Agency as an expert evaluating applications for research grants.

He has participated in many national and international research projects implemented, among others, under the PROGRESS programme and commissioned by the European Parliament's Directorate-General for Education and Culture, CEDEFOP and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. Currently, he is directing the National Science Centre grant "Polarization of the Polish labour market in the context of technological change". He participated in building the labour market forecasting system in Poland as part of projects financed by the European Union: "Development of an integrated forecasting and information system enabling the forecasting of employment" and the currently implemented "Polish Labour Market Forecasting System".

His primary research interests include labour market issues and the impact of information and telecommunications technologies on the economy, particularly the technological changes in the labour market and polarisation processes; labour market forecasting; digital exclusion; as well as changes in the education system induced by labour market needs.

In his free time, he devotes himself to his passions – recreational diving and running the "royal" marathon distance.
